The backyard

I've blogged about the backyard before.  We've been wanting forever and ever to remodel our backyard.  Because of this we let the grass die and the yard has been 3/4 dirt and 1/4 ugly chipped painted cracked concrete. So my generous brother came over and started breaking up the concrete.  See he wants all the new concrete to match which requires taking out all the old mismatched concrete.  Nick and Jorge worked really hard taking out the concrete.  What should have been a one to two day job ended up taking the whole week.  Because, the previous psycho owners thought that the house was moving and poured 8 inch thick concrete to keep their house from crashing into the neighbor's house.

Then the next day when Jorge got home from work, he took out a big chunk.

Finally after all concrete was broken up, Friday night my dad and Jorge loaded up Jorge's work truck to take to the dump Saturday morning.

The truck was so heavy the box almost hit the tires.

Here you can see how little concrete there was but how heavy it was.  So Saturday morning we unloaded some to their neighbors borrowed pick-up truck and covered the concrete with trash.  See it costs $101 a ton to dump construction/demolition material and $48 a ton for trash.  So we ended up with 5 tons in the big truck and 2 pick-up loads... $340 dollars to throw away concrete!

And since all of this, Nick has come to level some dirt and we're taking a little break.  Hopefully some more funds come in and we get started again.
